Times are the local clock time of Ahmedabad, with sunrise, sunset and moonrise from the Navamsha astrology API.
The first hora on Monday, 26 October 2026 in Ahmedabad is the Moon's hora, from sunrise at 6:45 AM, because Monday is ruled by the Moon. The twelve day horas, each about 56 minutes, run in this order: Moon 6:45 AM, Saturn 7:41 AM, Jupiter 8:37 AM, Mars 9:34 AM, Sun 10:30 AM, Venus 11:27 AM, Mercury 12:23 PM, Moon 1:19 PM, Saturn 2:16 PM, Jupiter 3:12 PM, Mars 4:09 PM, Sun 5:05 PM. The night horas begin at sunset, 6:01 PM, with Venus's hora.
A hora is a planetary hour. Each day and each night is split into twelve horas, ruled in turn by the Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars, and the first hora of the day belongs to the planet that rules the weekday.

What a hora is
The twelve horas of the daytime run from sunrise to sunset and the twelve of the night from sunset to the next sunrise, so they are not exactly an hour long: in the months with long days the day horas are longer than 60 minutes and the night horas shorter, and in the months with short days the other way round. The ruling planets follow one fixed order through day and night without a break: Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, then the Sun again.
The first hora after sunrise belongs to the planet of the weekday, which is why the weekday is named after it: the Sun on Sunday, the Moon on Monday, Mars on Tuesday, Mercury on Wednesday, Jupiter on Thursday, Venus on Friday and Saturn on Saturday.
What each planet's hora is used for
Traditionally, the Sun's hora is used for matters of authority and official work, the Moon's for travel and dealings with the public, and Mars's for courage, property and anything that takes effort. Mercury's is for study, trade and communication, Jupiter's for learning, teaching and advice, Venus's for relationships, the arts and comfort, and Saturn's for patient, routine or repair work.
This is how the tradition describes them, and it is offered here as a way of looking at the day, not as a guide to what will go well.
About the times in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad is about 10 degrees west of the Indian Standard Time meridian, so true local noon falls about 40 minutes after 12:00 by the clock, one of the latest of the big Indian cities.
How these times are calculated
Sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset come from the Navamsha astrology API; where it is not available they are computed by our own engine, which agrees with it to a fraction of a second. The moment each tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana ends is computed by that engine from the positions of the Sun and Moon (NASA JPL DE421 ephemeris) in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya, Hora, Abhijit Muhurat and the other periods are fixed fractions of the day worked out from sunrise and sunset.
Almanacs differ in how they define sunrise. Here the Sun rises when the centre of its disc is on the horizon, with no allowance for refraction. Almanacs that use the Sun's upper edge and refraction show sunrise a few minutes earlier and sunset a few minutes later, and their Rahu Kaal and other periods move with it. For a ceremony, follow the Panchang your family priest or local temple uses.
Frequently asked questions
Which hora is it at sunrise today in Ahmedabad?
At sunrise on Monday, 26 October 2026 the hora is the Moon's, from 6:45 AM to 7:41 AM.
What is a hora in astrology?
A hora is a planetary hour. The day from sunrise to sunset and the night from sunset to sunrise are each divided into twelve horas, ruled one after another by the Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars.
Is a hora exactly one hour long?
No. The twelve horas of the day share the real length of the daytime, and the twelve of the night share the night, so a day hora is longer than an hour when the days are long and shorter when they are short.
Which hora is the first of the day?
The first hora after sunrise belongs to the planet that rules the weekday: the Sun on Sunday, the Moon on Monday, Mars on Tuesday, Mercury on Wednesday, Jupiter on Thursday, Venus on Friday, Saturn on Saturday.
Does the hora decide whether something will succeed?
No. Hora is a traditional way of looking at the day. It does not predict how anything will turn out.
What is Panchang?
Panchang is the Hindu almanac. It lists five limbs for each day: tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra, yoga and karana, together with sunrise, sunset and the timed periods of the day such as Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya, Hora and Abhijit Muhurat.
Why does the Panchang change from city to city?
The Moon's position is the same everywhere at a given instant, but the Panchang day starts at the local sunrise and each timed period is a fraction of the local day, so the clock times differ between cities.
