Free Vedic birth chart (kundli) calculator
A Vedic birth chart, or kundli, shows where the planets were in the sidereal zodiac at your birth: each planet's sign, degree, nakshatra and house, plus your rising sign and the planetary period (dasha) you are in now.
What this chart shows
The calculator lists the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu with their sign, degree, nakshatra and pada, and whether they are retrograde. With a birth time it also gives your rising sign and the whole-sign house of every planet, and the Vimshottari mahadasha and antardasha running today.
How it is calculated
Positions come from the NASA JPL DE421 ephemeris, converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Houses are whole-sign. Rahu and Ketu use the mean lunar node. The same details always give the same chart. The full method and known limits are on the how-it-works page.
Unknown birth time
Without a birth time there is no rising sign or houses. The planets are shown for noon on your birth day, and the Moon is marked uncertain if it changed sign or nakshatra that day.
Frequently asked questions
What is a kundli?
Kundli is the Hindi word for a Vedic birth chart: the map of the planets in the zodiac at the moment and place of your birth.
What do I need to make a Vedic birth chart?
Your birth date, birthplace and, ideally, your exact birth time. Without the time you still get planet signs, but no rising sign or houses.
What is the difference between a Vedic and a Western birth chart?
Vedic charts use the sidereal zodiac and usually whole-sign houses. Western charts use the tropical zodiac, so many planets sit in a different sign.
Is this birth chart free?
Yes. The calculator is free, needs no sign-in, and does not save your birth details.
