Example readings

Three made-up hands with fixed sample readings, to show what a reading looks like. These are examples, not anyone's palm.

ExampleExample A: three clear main lines: highlighted lines and mounts
  • Clearly seen
  • Hard to tell
  • Not visible

Example A: three clear main lines

Clearly seen:
Heart line, Head line, Life line, Mount of Venus, Mount of Jupiter
Hard to tell:
Fate line
Not visible:
Sun line, Mercury line, Mount of the Moon
  • In this example the heart, head and life lines are all easy to see.
  • A long, gently curving heart line is traditionally read as warmth that is shown openly rather than kept back.
  • A straight head line that runs well across the palm is often described as a practical, focused way of thinking, someone who likes to finish one thing before starting the next.
  • The fate line is hard to tell in this example, so a reading would say so plainly and not guess.
  • The sun and Mercury lines are not visible, which is common: many hands do not show them.

How to take a good palm photo

  • Good lightDaylight from a window is best. Avoid the flash and harsh sun, which flatten the lines.
  • One open palmShow the inside of one hand, fingers together and relaxed, with the whole palm and the base of the fingers in the picture.
  • Fill the frameHold the phone about 20 to 30 cm away so the palm fills most of the picture, and tap the screen to focus.
  • Just your handNo faces and no other people in the picture. We refuse photos that show a person or more than one hand.

How palm reading works here

Upload a clear photo of one open palm. Your phone checks it first, for light, sharpness and size, and nothing leaves your device at that point. If the photo is fine, you can unlock a personalised reading of your own palm; the photo is sent to be read only after the payment is confirmed, and a prepared copy is remembered in this browser for up to 30 days; our servers do not store it.

Everything else on this page is free and needs no photo: tap any line or mount on the palm drawing to see where it is and what palmistry traditionally says about it, and open the example hands to see what a full reading looks like. The meanings and the examples were written by us.

The main lines of the palm

The heart line runs under the fingers and is traditionally read for how feelings are given and received. The head line crosses the middle of the palm and is read for thinking style, practical or imaginative. The life line curves around the base of the thumb; despite its name, it is read as energy and steadiness in daily life, not as how long anyone lives.

Some hands also show a fate line rising up the middle of the palm (a sense of direction), a sun line towards the ring finger (recognition and creativity) and a Mercury line towards the little finger (communication). Many hands do not have these three at all, and that is normal.

The mounts of the palm

The mounts are the raised pads of the palm, each named after a planet. Under the fingers sit the mounts of Jupiter (index finger: ambition and confidence), Saturn (middle finger: responsibility and structure), Apollo or the Sun (ring finger: creativity and charm) and Mercury (little finger: communication and wit).

The fleshy base of the thumb is the mount of Venus (warmth and enjoyment of company), the outer edge of the palm is the mount of the Moon (imagination and intuition), and the mounts of Mars sit between thumb and index finger and below the little finger (courage and how conflict is handled).

How to take a palm photo that can be read

Use daylight from a window and turn the flash off. Show the inside of one open hand, fingers together and relaxed, with the whole palm and the base of the fingers in the picture. Hold the phone about 20 to 30 cm away so the palm fills most of the frame, and tap your palm on the screen to focus.

Keep faces and other people out of the picture: a photo that shows a person or more than one hand is refused. Your dominant hand is the one most palm readers look at first, but either hand can be read.

What this reading can and cannot see

A photo shows only what the light and the camera catch. Fine lines, faint lines and the depth of a mount are often hard to see, so each feature in your reading is marked as clearly seen, hard to tell, or not visible in this photo. A line that cannot be seen is never made up, and a hard-to-tell feature is described as uncertain.

Palmistry is a traditional system of symbolism, not a science. There is no evidence that the lines of the hand predict events, health, illness or lifespan, so this reading never talks about them. Please treat it as a prompt for reflection, and do not base decisions about your health, money, safety or relationships on it.

The free guide and the personal reading

The palm drawing, the meanings of every line and mount, the example readings and the photo guide are free and need no sign-in. The personal reading is a one-time payment through Razorpay and covers one hand. If your photo cannot be read, you are told why and can send another photo without paying again; after several unreadable photos we refund you.

After you pay, your photo is sent once to OpenAI to note which lines and mounts can be seen, and the written reading is made by an AI from those notes. A prepared copy stays in this browser for up to 30 days; our servers do not store it; OpenAI may keep what it receives for up to 30 days for abuse checks. What was seen and the written reading are kept for 30 days so you can come back to them, and are never put in the page address or in analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Is palm reading free here?

The guide is free: the interactive palm chart with the meaning of every line and mount, the example readings and the photo tips need no sign-in and no upload. A reading of your own palm from a photo is a one-time payment; the price is shown before you pay.

What are the main lines in palm reading?

The three main lines are the heart line (under the fingers), the head line (across the middle of the palm) and the life line (around the base of the thumb). Some hands also have a fate line, a sun line and a Mercury line.

Does a short life line mean a short life?

No. In traditional palmistry the life line is read as energy and steadiness in daily life, not as lifespan, and there is no evidence that any line of the hand predicts how long someone lives. This reading never talks about health or lifespan.

Which hand should I use for palm reading?

Most palm readers look first at the dominant hand, the one you write with. Either hand can be read; one reading covers one hand.

What if I don't have a fate line?

Many hands do not show a fate line, a sun line or a Mercury line, and that is normal. Traditionally a missing fate line is read as a path that is more freely chosen, not as something lacking.

How do I take a good photo of my palm?

Use daylight, no flash, one open hand with the fingers together, the whole palm in the frame and the phone about 20 to 30 cm away. Tap your palm on the screen to focus. No faces or other people in the picture.

Do you keep my palm photo?

A prepared copy is remembered in this browser for up to 30 days, and you can remove it with Clear saved details. It is sent for reading only after you pay. Our servers do not store it. OpenAI, which reads it, may keep what it receives for up to 30 days for abuse checks. Only the list of what was seen and the written reading are kept, for 30 days.

What if my photo cannot be read?

You are told what went wrong, for example too dark or blurry, with a tip, and you can send another photo without paying again. If several photos cannot be read, contact us and we will refund you.

Can palm reading predict the future?

There is no evidence that it can. Palmistry is a traditional way of reflecting on temperament through the hand. Please do not make decisions about your health, money, safety or relationships based on it.

Is palm reading part of Vedic astrology?

Palmistry (hasta samudrika shastra in India) is a separate tradition from Vedic astrology (Jyotish), which reads the birth chart from the positions of the planets. For your chart, use the free Vedic birth chart calculator.
