What this calculator counts

It counts by sign: Saturn in the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from your natal Moon sign, in the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Some sources define the period differently, for example by degrees around the Moon, so dates from another source can differ.

Saturn takes about two and a half years to cross a sign, and it sometimes moves backwards across a boundary and returns later. Every entry, exit and return is listed, so you see the real dates instead of one broad period.

How to read it

Sade Sati is a long, slow transit that most people live through two or three times. People experience it very differently. Treat it as a way to notice a period of change and steadiness, not as a prediction.

Birth time and your Moon sign

The Moon changes sign about every two and a quarter days. If it changed sign on your birth day and you do not know your birth time, both possible Moon signs are shown with their own timelines. Where the clocks changed at your birth time, you are asked which time it was.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sade Sati?

It is the period when Saturn moves through the 12th, 1st and 2nd signs from your Moon sign. The name means seven and a half, for the roughly seven and a half years that takes.

How do I know if I am in Sade Sati?

Enter your birth details. The calculator shows where Saturn is today relative to your Moon sign and lists every period from your birth to 2050.

Why are there several start and end dates?

Saturn sometimes moves backwards across a sign boundary and returns later, so it can leave and re-enter a sign. Every crossing is shown.

Is Sade Sati bad?

It is not a prediction of bad luck. It is a name for a transit. Traditions read it in many ways, and your whole chart matters more than this one position.

Why does my Moon sign matter?

The three signs are counted from your Moon sign, so a different Moon sign gives a different timeline. The Moon sign here is the Vedic (sidereal) one, which is often the sign before your Western Moon sign.

How is this different from other websites?

Some websites define the period by degrees rather than by sign, or merge the re-entries into one period. This tool counts by sign and lists every crossing.
