Numerology calculator: your Life Path and name numbers
Your date of birth gives your Life Path and Birthday numbers; your name adds three more. Each comes with its traditional meaning and the working, free.
How the calculator works
Enter your date of birth, and your name if you want the name numbers. The calculation happens on our server with a fixed set of rules, so the same date and name always give the same numbers. Nothing you type is saved by the free calculator, and nothing is put in the page address.
Every number is reduced by adding its digits until one digit is left, with one exception: 11, 22 and 33 are kept as they are. These are called master numbers. The result page shows the working for each number, so you can check it by hand.
Life Path number
The Life Path number is the main number of a numerology chart and is read as the overall direction of a life. It comes from the full date of birth: the day, the month and the year are each reduced first, then added together and reduced again.
An illustrative example with a made-up date, 15 July 1990: the day 15 gives 1 + 5 = 6, the month gives 7, and the year 1990 gives 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1. Adding 6 + 7 + 1 gives 14, and 1 + 4 = 5. So the Life Path number is 5.
Some books add every digit of the date at once instead. Usually that gives the same final digit, but it can hide or create a master number, so this calculator states which method it uses.
Birthday number
The Birthday number is simply the day of the month you were born, reduced. It is traditionally read as a particular talent you bring with you. Someone born on the 29th has 2 + 9 = 11, a master number, which is kept. Someone born on the 4th has Birthday number 4.
Name numbers: Expression, Soul Urge and Personality
In the Pythagorean table each letter has a value from 1 to 9: A, J and S are 1; B, K and T are 2; C, L and U are 3; D, M and V are 4; E, N and W are 5; F, O and X are 6; G, P and Y are 7; H, Q and Z are 8; I and R are 9.
The Expression number adds every letter of the name. The Soul Urge number adds only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U), and the Personality number only the consonants. In this calculator Y is always counted as a consonant. An illustrative example with a made-up name, Priya Sharma: all the letters add up to 57, then 5 + 7 = 12, then 1 + 2 = 3, so the Expression number is 3.
Use the name you go by now, written in English letters. Spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are ignored and accents are removed. Names typed in Devanagari or another script are not converted, because one Hindi name can be written in English in more than one way, and each spelling gives different numbers.
Pythagorean and Chaldean numerology
There are two common systems. Pythagorean numerology, used here, gives the letters values from 1 to 9 in alphabetical order. Chaldean numerology, which many people in India know through name-number advice, uses a different table with values from 1 to 8 and reads compound numbers. The two systems can give different name numbers for the same name, so a result from one cannot be compared with a result from the other.
What numerology can and cannot tell you
Numerology is a traditional system of symbolism, not a science, and there is no research showing that these numbers describe character or predict events. The calculation is exact, but the meanings are traditional associations offered for reflection. Please do not base decisions about health, money or relationships on a number.
The free result and the personal reading
The free result shows all your numbers, the working and a traditional meaning for each, with no sign-in. If you want more, you can choose an optional personal reading after your result, paid once through Razorpay: it connects your numbers to each other and to one area you choose (love, career, money, growth or a general reading), with reflection questions. The numbers in the reading are always the ones calculated here; the written part is made by an AI from those numbers and their meanings, and never changes a number.
For the paid reading we keep only your first name, the area you chose and your reduced numbers, never your date of birth or full name, and delete them after 30 days.
Frequently asked questions
What is my Life Path number?
Enter your date of birth above. The Life Path number comes from your full date of birth: the day, the month and the year are reduced separately, added together and reduced again to one digit, or kept as 11, 22 or 33.
How do I calculate my Life Path number by hand?
Reduce the day, the month and the year to one digit each (keep 11 and 22 if they appear), add the three, then add the digits of the total until one digit is left, or 11, 22 or 33. For the made-up date 15 July 1990: 6 + 7 + 1 = 14, and 1 + 4 = 5.
What are master numbers in numerology?
11, 22 and 33. They are kept instead of being reduced to 2, 4 and 6, and are traditionally read as a stronger form of that number. Some books do not keep 33, and books also differ on when a master number counts, which is why this calculator states its method.
What is the difference between the Life Path and the Birthday number?
The Life Path number uses the whole date of birth and is read as the main direction of a life. The Birthday number uses only the day of the month and is read as one particular gift or talent.
What is a name number?
Name numbers come from the letters of your name. The Expression number uses all the letters, the Soul Urge number the vowels and the Personality number the consonants. Many people in India also say name number (namank) for the Chaldean name number, which uses a different table.
Which name should I use: my birth name or my current name?
This calculator is set up for the name you use now. Traditions differ: some use the full name on the birth certificate. If you are curious, try both and compare.
Is numerology accurate?
The arithmetic is exact and repeatable. Whether the numbers say anything true about a person is a matter of belief, not something research has shown. Treat the meanings as prompts for reflection.
Is this numerology calculator free?
Yes. All five numbers, the working and the meanings are free and need no sign-in. After your result you can choose an optional personal reading, paid once; its price is shown before you pay.
