What is the reading about?

How a reading works here

Choose what the reading is about (a general reading, love and relationships, career and work, or personal growth) and how many cards you want. You can also write a question in your own words. The deck of 78 cards is then shuffled on our server, and each card is given an upright or reversed orientation at the same moment.

You see the cards face down and tap the ones that draw you. Your picks are stored with the shuffle, so the reading cannot change: refreshing the page shows the same cards, and choosing again does not reshuffle a reading you have already turned over. Start a new reading whenever you want a fresh draw.

The free result shows each card's name, its position, whether it is upright or reversed, a few keywords, its traditional meaning and, for love, career and growth, a short line for that topic. Nothing in the free result is written by an AI.

The spreads and their positions

One card is the simplest reading: a single card for the heart of the matter. It is a good way to start, or to sit with one question for a day.

Three cards tell a short story, and the positions depend on the topic. A general reading uses Past, Present and What may unfold. Love uses You, The connection and What it needs. Career uses Where you stand, The challenge and Advice. Personal growth uses Release, Nurture and Next step. None of the positions is called the future, because a card describes a tendency to reflect on, not an event that is fixed.

Upright and reversed cards

A card that comes up the right way is read upright: its qualities are taken to be active and openly expressed. A card that comes up upside down is read reversed, which traditionally means the same energy turned inward, held back, delayed or overdone. A reversed card is not simply the bad version of a card. The Fool upright, for example, points to openness and a willingness to begin; reversed, it asks whether a leap is being rushed or put off for too long.

In this deck each card has an equal chance of being upright or reversed, and the orientation is fixed when the deck is shuffled, before you choose.

The Major and Minor Arcana

The 22 cards of the Major Arcana, from The Fool to The World, are traditionally read as larger themes and turning points. The 56 cards of the Minor Arcana are read as everyday matters and come in four suits: Wands for action, energy and ambition; Cups for feelings and relationships; Swords for thoughts, words and decisions; and Pentacles for practical matters, work and resources. Each suit runs from the Ace to Ten, followed by four court cards: Page, Knight, Queen and King.

The card meanings used here were written for Vedic Astro Lab from the traditional themes of the early twentieth century tarot, in plain and calm language. Cards such as Death and The Tower are read the traditional way, as change and the end of a chapter, not as literal events.

What tarot can and cannot do

Tarot is a practice of reflection: the cards give a picture and a set of themes to think with. There is no evidence that tarot predicts events, so please do not treat a card as a forecast or base decisions about your health, money, safety or relationships on it. If you are going through something hard, talking to someone you trust or a qualified professional matters more than any card.

Tarot is not part of Vedic astrology, which reads the birth chart. If you want a reading of your own chart, try the free Vedic birth chart calculator or ask the astrologer.

The free result and the personal reading

The free result shows every card you drew with its traditional meaning in its position. After it, you can choose a personal reading, paid once through Razorpay with no sign-in; its price is shown there before you pay. It explains each card in its position for your topic and your question, how the cards connect, and gives three questions to reflect on. The cards in the reading are always exactly the ones you drew; the written part is made by an AI from those cards and their meanings, and never changes a card.

A free draw keeps your cards and question for 24 hours so you can come back to them. With the paid reading they are kept for 30 days and then deleted. Your question is never put in the page address or in analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tarot reading free?

Yes. Drawing one or three cards, the card meanings and the spread positions are free and need no sign-in. After the free result you can choose an optional personal reading of your cards, paid once.

Should I choose one card or three cards?

One card gives a single focus for a question or a day. Three cards show a short story: for a general reading, the past, the present and what may unfold; for love, career and growth the positions change to suit the topic.

What does a reversed tarot card mean?

A reversed card is one that comes up upside down. It is traditionally read as the card's energy turned inward, blocked, delayed or overdone, rather than as a bad sign. The result page shows the reversed meaning for each card that comes up reversed.

What is the difference between the Major and Minor Arcana?

The 22 Major Arcana cards, such as The Fool, The Lovers and The World, are read as big themes and turning points. The 56 Minor Arcana cards, in the suits of Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles, are read as everyday matters.

Does the Death card mean someone will die?

No. Traditionally the Death card means an ending that makes room for something new, such as the close of a chapter, a habit or a phase. Tarot cards are symbols for reflection, not forecasts of literal events.

Can I ask a specific question?

Yes. You can write a question of up to 300 characters before you draw. The free result shows the cards for your topic; the paid reading reads them in the light of your question. Your question is never put in the page address or in analytics.

Will I get the same cards if I refresh the page?

Yes. The shuffle and the cards you pick are stored on our server, so the same reading comes back after a refresh. To get new cards, start a new reading.

Can tarot predict the future?

There is no evidence that it can. Tarot is best used as a way to reflect on a situation from a different angle. Please do not make decisions about your health, money, safety or relationships based on a card.

Is tarot part of Vedic astrology?

No. Tarot is a European card tradition, while Vedic astrology (Jyotish) reads the birth chart from the positions of the planets. For your chart, use the free Vedic birth chart calculator.
